A Cath Lab Tech (Catheterization Laboratory Technologist), also known as a Cardiovascular Technologist, is a specialized healthcare professional who assists in diagnostic and interventional procedures involving the heart and blood vessels. Working under the direction of cardiologists in a cath lab, they prepare and operate imaging equipment, monitor patients’ vital signs, assist with catheter insertions, and help perform procedures such as angiograms, angioplasties, and stent placements. Cath Lab Techs ensure sterile technique, administer contrast media, and help respond to emergencies during procedures. Typically trained through accredited cardiovascular technology programs and often certified by organizations like ARRT or CCI, they play a vital role in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
