A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room (OR) is a licensed nursing professional who provides specialized perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. OR RNs prepare the operating suite, verify patient information, ensure sterile technique, and coordinate surgical equipment and supplies. They function as circulating or scrub nurses, maintaining patient safety, anticipating surgical needs, and supporting surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout procedures. Operating Room Registered Nurses advocate for the patient in the sterile environment and monitor patient status before, during, and after surgery. With strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure, OR RNs play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.
