A Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. They provide life-supporting therapies and work with patients of all ages—from premature infants with underdeveloped lungs to adults with chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, or pneumonia. Respiratory Therapists perform diagnostic tests, manage ventilators, administer oxygen and aerosol medications, and respond to emergency situations like cardiac arrest or trauma. They collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and critical care teams to develop and implement effective respiratory care plans. With strong clinical expertise and compassion, Respiratory Therapists play a vital role in restoring optimal lung function, improving patient comfort, and enhancing overall quality of life.
