An RN – Wound Care Nurse is a registered nurse who specializes in the assessment, treatment, and management of acute and chronic wounds. Wound Care RNs evaluate skin integrity, develop and implement evidence-based wound care plans, and perform advanced treatments such as wound debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, and specialized dressings. They collaborate with physicians, surgeons, dietitians, and interdisciplinary teams to promote healing, prevent infection, and reduce complications. Wound Care nurses also provide patient and family education on wound management, nutrition, and prevention strategies, supporting long-term recovery and quality of life. Licensed as Registered Nurses with certifications such as BLS and WOCN (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing certification), they play a vital role in improving outcomes and delivering expert skin and wound care across hospital, outpatient, and long-term care settings.
