A Registered Nurse (RN) in Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) is a licensed nursing professional who provides comprehensive care to patients with complex, chronic, or medically fragile conditions requiring extended hospitalization. LTAC RNs care for patients with needs such as ventilator dependence, complex wound management, IV therapies, and long-term cardiac or respiratory support. They perform detailed assessments, administer medications and treatments, and closely monitor patient progress over longer recovery periods. Working collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary care teams, LTAC Registered Nurses focus on stabilization, recovery, and continuity of care. With strong clinical skills, patience, and adaptability, they play a critical role in supporting patient healing in a high-acuity, long-term setting.
