An RN in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is a specialized registered nurse who provides critical care to premature and critically ill newborns. They monitor vital signs, manage incubators and life-support equipment, administer medications, and support feeding and developmental care. NICU RNs work closely with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams to treat conditions such as respiratory distress, infections, and congenital disorders. They also provide education and emotional support to families. In a highly specialized and sensitive environment, NICU nurses play a vital role in stabilizing and improving outcomes for vulnerable infants.
