An RN in the CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) is a highly specialized registered nurse who provides critical care to patients with severe cardiac and vascular conditions. They care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery, heart transplants, and other complex cardiovascular procedures, as well as those experiencing life-threatening conditions such as heart failure or cardiac arrest. CVICU RNs monitor advanced hemodynamic data, manage ventilators and life-support equipment, administer critical medications, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition. Working closely with surgeons, cardiologists, and multidisciplinary teams, they play a vital role in delivering high-acuity, life-saving care.
