A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a highly specialized nursing professional who provides critical, compassionate care to premature and medically fragile newborns. NICU RNs monitor vital signs, manage IV and enteral feedings, administer medications, and operate advanced life-support and monitoring equipment. They assess subtle changes in an infant’s condition, respond quickly to emergencies, and collaborate closely with neonatologists and interdisciplinary care teams. NICU Registered Nurses also support and educate families during emotionally challenging times, fostering bonding and confidence in care. With advanced clinical skills, vigilance, and empathy, NICU RNs play a vital role in improving outcomes and giving newborns the best possible start in life.
